Long began his collegiate career with a 144 at the Kiawah Island Invitational, good for even par and a 13th place finish. His performance helped the Blazers to a second place finish among 18 teams. In his second tournament, the Cougar Invitational, Long was 11 over par (+11) and finished tied for 54th. Valdosta State placed fifth out of 16 participants.
