North Alabama third baseman
Shelby Woodard (Fr.; Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) was named the Gulf South Conference Softball Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.
Woodard hit two three-run home runs in pinch hit at bats and drew a walk during UNA’s three-game sweep against Mississippi College. For the three games, she hit 1.000 with a slugging percentage of 4.000 as she drove in six runs and scored three. Her first home run came with two outs in the fourth inning of Game 1, making it 5-1 Lions after MC got on the board in the top half of the inning. The second pinch-hit, three-run bomb to left broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning of Game 3 en route to a 6-2 win. Woodard now has five home runs and 14 RBI with a .326 batting average in 43 at bats this season.
