North Alabama outfielder
Courtney Shields (Sr.; Columbiana, Ala.) was named the Gulf South Conference Softball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Shields helped extend sixth-ranked UNA’s win streak to 15 games as the Lady Lions swept West Alabama to move into a tie for first place with Delta State. She hit .600 (9-for-15) in the three games, including five doubles and two home runs. She homered in both at bats of Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, and then hit four doubles in Sunday’s series finale. She helped drive in nine runs and scored six times. Shields is now tied for the GSC lead in doubles (15). Shields is ranked No. 9 in the GSC with a .405 batting average through 36 games.
