Delta State first baseman
Morgan Kazerooni (Fr.; Kennesaw, Ga.) was named the Gulf South Conference Softball Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.
Kazerooni hit .375 (6-for-16) with a double, home run, nine RBI and three runs scored. She hit 3-for-6 in a pair of mid-week wins against Miles College. She then hit 4-for-10 against No. 3 Alabama Huntsville, including 4-for-7 with six RBI and two runs scored. Her one hit in the first game of the double header, a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, proved to be the game-winning shot. She hit 3-for-4 in game two, helping Delta State hand UAH its first mercy rule loss since 2010. Kazerooni is now tied for the team lead with 38 RBI and is seventh in the GSC, hitting .416 through 34 games. Kazerooni follows UNA’s Courtney Shields and teammate Kaitlin Moore with 14 doubles.
