High School Bishop Chatard HS Alabama Huntsville guard Greg Gardner (Indianapolis, Ind.) earns his first GSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor of the season. Gardner collected the first triple-double of the season in the Gulf South Conference, scoring 14 points, dishing out 14 assists and grabbing 10 rebounds in the Chargers’ regular season finale win over rival North Alabama, 108-88. He only had two turnovers. The 14 assists is a career-high for Gardner on Senior Day and accounted for half of UAH’s 28 assists in the game. He shot 60 percent from the floor (3-for-5), including two 3-pointers, and made 6-of-8 free throws. Gardner’s triple-double is the 16th this season by an NCAA Division II player. Gardner leads the GSC in total assists (167), assists per game (6.2) and assist/turnover ratio (3.7). Top-seed UAH (21-6, 18-4 GSC) will host No. 8 seed Shorter tonight at 7 p.m. CT in the VisitSpaceCoast.com Gulf South Conference Men’s Basketball Championship quarterfinals.
