West Florida pitcher
Kalyn Chapman (Sr.; Boonville, Ind. ) was named the Gulf South Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Chapman (5-1-1) led West Florida with a 0.42 ERA on the week and 25 strike outs while recording a pair of wins and a save. She pitched a one-hit shutout on Saturday against No. 18 Valdosta State and then collected the save in game three of the series Sunday, allowing one hit and walking two through 2 2/3 scoreless innings. She struck out 15 Blazer batters in 9 2/3 innings during the weekend series. Earlier in the week, she struck out 10 in a complete game win over Columbus State. She allowed one earned run, three total, off five hits and four walks. In addition to her pitching, Chapman hit 4-for-12 as DP during the week. She drove in six runs and scored three, including two home runs. Her two-run home run in the fourth inning against Valdosta State on Sunday proved to be the game-winner. The three-game performance in the circle lowered her ERA to 2.00 for the season through 42 innings pitched. She has 61 strikeouts, a team-high and fourth-best in the GSC.
