Valdosta State first baseman
Kiley Rusen (Sr.; Brookfield, Ill.) was named the Gulf South Conference Softball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Rusen hit .588 during the week, including .556 in a three-game conference sweep against Christian Brothers, with a 1.471 slugging percentage. She drove in 15 RBI in five games, averaging two hits, 1.4 runs, three RBI and a home run per game. In VSU's midweek sweep of Albany State, Rusen was 5-for-8 with two home runs and six RBI. Over the weekend, she hit a home run in each win over CBU, driving in nine runs and scoring five. Two of her home runs against CBU were game-enders, enacting the mercy rule. She walked twice during the week and only struck out once. Rusen leads the GSC in slugging percentage (1.116), RBI (29) and home runs (9). VSU (12-3-1, 4-2) will travel to West Florida this weekend.
