Valdosta State pitcher
Caitlyn Calhoun (Sr.; Hamilton, Ohio) was named the Gulf South Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. It is her second consecutive honor and ninth of her career. She earned the honor seven times in 2015 and once as a sophomore in 2014.
Calhoun did not allow a run in four appearances during the week, collecting three complete-game shutout wins and a save for sixth-ranked Valdosta State. She struck out 26 through 19 innings of work and allowed only six hits and one walk. She hit three batters. In VSU's midweek sweep of Albany State, Calhoun pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout in the first game, and then added a scoreless inning in relief for the save. She struck out 10 in the eight innings of work. She won two of Valdosta's three games against Christian Brothers over the weekend, allowing five hits, one walk and one hit batter through 11 innings. She struck out 16. During the week, she held opponents to a .097 batting average. Calhoun leads the GSC with six shutouts and 70 strikeouts through 11 appearances. Eight of her 10 complete games have resulted in a win, the third most wins in the GSC. Her 1.32 ERA is fifth in the GSC.
