West Florida shortstop and catcher
Rhiannon Sassman (Fr.; Orlando, Fla.) was named the Gulf South Conference Softball Player of the Week and Gulf South Conference Softball Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.
Sassman hit .529 during the week with 11 RBI and six runs scored, while leading West Florida to a 3-2 week. The freshman out of East River High School, collected four doubles, two home runs and two walks during the week, giving her an on base percentage of .579 and slugging percentage of 1.118. During a doubleheader last Thursday at Miles College, she went 4-for-6 with three doubles, a home run and six RBI. In the three-game GSC opening series against Lee, Sassman hit 5-for-11, including a 3-for-4 day Saturday with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in UWF’s 6-3 win. Sassman leads the team with a .417 batting average, five doubles and 14 RBI.
