North Alabama pitcher
Hillary Carpenter (Jr.; Hatton, Ala.) was named the Gulf South Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 9.
The left-handed Carpenter went 3-0 with a save during the week through five appearances, while helping UNA (11-1) to a 7-1 week. She allowed four earned runs, five total, but did not allow a run in three of her outings. Carpenter opened the week with a start at Spring Hill, but exited the game with a no decision in the Lions’ 3-2 win after allowing two runs, one earned, off four hits in 5 1/3 innings of work. On Friday, she pitched four hitless innings, allowing two walks and five strikeouts in an 11-0 win over Lindenwood. Saturday, she collected a 6-0 shutout win over Mobile, allowing one walk and three hits. She also pitched one scoreless inning for the save in UNA’s 3-2 win over Midwestern State. She capped the week Sunday, pitching another complete-game win, 8-3 over Simon Fraser, despite allowing three earned runs off six hits and two walks. During the week, she struck out 19, while holding opponents to a .191 batting average.
