- North Alabama guard
John Fletcher (San Diego, Calif.) is the GSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the first time this season.
- Fletcher put together a pair of 30-plus scoring performances, while helping UNA to a 1-1 week to close the first half of GSC action last week. The senior averaged 31 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and one assist in two games.
- Last Monday, Schmidt scored 30 in a loss to Union. He connected on 10-of-19 from the field, 2-of-5 from 3-point rance ang all eight free throws.
- Saturday, Fletcher dropped a career-high 32 points in an upset of rival UAH, who was the only team atop the GSC standings at the time. He shot 50 percent (8-of-16) from the field and 13-of-13 from the line.
- He is the second player this season to score 30-plus points in consecutive games. Two-time GSC Player of the Week Devin Schmidt who has six 30-point games this season for Delta State, has scored 30 in consecutive games three times.
- UNA (10-7, 7-4 GSC) is now tied for fourth place in the GSC standings and is unbeaten at home in conference action this season. The Lions will host West Florida at 8 p.m. CT Thursday and Valdosta State at 3 p.m. CT Saturday.
