- Alabama Huntsville guard
Justin Ward (New Market, Ala.) is the GSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. This is his first GSC Player of the Week selection.
- Ward, a two-time Freshman of the Week selection last season, is the first UAH Charger to be named Player of the Week since Preston Herring earned the honor Dec. 16, 2014.
- The sophomore came off the bench in both games to help UAH to a 2-0 week and reclaim first place in the GSC standings.
- Ward erupted for 27 points in 18 minutes off the bench in UAH’s win over Lee on Saturday – the largest point total of the season by a UAH player.
- He hit seven 3s in the win against Lee and did not have a free throw attempt.
- On Thursday, he was 4-of-6 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers, to score 14 points in 14 minutes of action in the Chargers’ win against Shorter.
- His point total (41) was not only the most per game (20.5) among GSC Player of the nominees, but averaged out to 1.28 points per minute played (32).
- UAH (8-3, 5-1 GSC) will take a 13-day break to close December before GSC action resumes Jan. 2 with a trip to Mississippi College. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
