West Florida guard
Rashaan Benson (Memphis Tenn.) earns his first GSC Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week honor. Benson netted a career-high 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor (.800) and 4-of-6 from the free throw line (.800) in the Argonauts’ only game last week against Spring Hill College. He added five rebounds and four assists. Two of his free throws came in the final minute to help ice UWF’s first win of the season, 78-73, over Spring Hill. In his last two games, Benson has hit 6-of-9 shots, including two 3-pointers. West Florida (1-2) will host No. 19 Alabama-Huntsville to open Gulf South Conference play on Wednesday, Dec. 2. Tipoff is 3 p.m. CT.
