Devin Schmidt (Sevierville, Tenn.) averaged 25 points, seven rebounds and three assists last week for the Statesmen in 61 minutes played to earn the GSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor for the fourth time in his career. Schmidt led DSU’s second-half rally in an 80-71 loss at Tarelton State on Wednesday, scoring 25 of his 31 points in the second half to help cut the Tarelton lead from 18 to nine. He followed his 31-point game with 19 points in DSU’s 122-59 win over Johnson in its home opener. Schmidt hit 11 3-pointers during the week, including five against Johnson to help lead his team to a new school record for 3-pointers made in a game (20). He shot 49 percent from the field in the two games.
