Shorter guard Phil Taylor (Brooklyn, N.Y.) played all 85 minutes in his first two games as a Shorter Hawk over the weekend. The junior transfer from Florida International University shot 79 percent (11-of-14) from the floor and 4-for-5 (80 percent) from 3 to score a career-high 36-points in his debut for the Hawks in Friday's win over Spring Hill College. He also had five assists. On Saturday, Taylor hit a 3 at the buzzer to force overtime in a 106-96 win over LeMoyne-Owen. He finished with 26 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the game. During the two games, he averaged 31.0, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists, while shooting 51 percent (18-of-35) from the floor and 44 percent (7-of-18) from long range. Shorter (2-0) will travel to Alabama Huntsville this weekend to meet Trevecca Nazarene University and Stillman College in the UAH Classic.
