GSC Announces 2018 Spring Academic Awards
2018 GSC SPRING ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL
2018 GSC SPRING ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference is proud to announce the academic awards for the 2018 spring season.
The spring sports honored are baseball, softball, men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track and field, women's track and field, and women's lacrosse.
Academic All-GSC Teams are selected by the Gulf South Conference Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) in a joint vote. Nominees must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be freshmen or first-semester or quarter transfers. The student-athlete must be a significant contributor to the squad. Other factors include leadership, community service and extra-curricular activities. SIDs and FARs are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions normally involved in the playing of that sport. Ties are not broken.
There are nine three-time honorees in the group:
Meghan Toney (UWF; softball),
Chandler Blanchet (UWF; men's golf),
Sam Burrus (LEE; women's golf),
Cristina Cabanas (UAH; women's tennis),
Nic Pinarski (CBU; men's track and field),
Emani Collins (UWG; women's track and field),
Audrey Smith (LEE; women's track and field),
Elli Flaig (YHC; women's lacrosse),
Meghan Tonnesen (YHC; women's lacrosse)
Additionally, 26 student-athletes are receiving the honor for the second time.
In its first year back in the GSC, Montevallo had the most students named to the academic honor roll.
