GSC Announces 2018 Women's Golf All-Conference Awards
2018 GSC WOMEN’S GOLF ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - West Florida’s
Paloma Vaccaro has been named the Gulf South Conference's Golfer of the Year. Union’s
Alyssa Burnett is the GSC Freshman of the Year, while Lee’s John Maupin receives the GSC Coach of the Year award.
Vaccaro receives the conference’s top award after winning the individual medal at the GSC Championship. The senior finishes the regular season with a stroke average of 72.38, good for second in the nation in Division II. Vaccaro led the Argos to three top 10 team finishes, winning two tournaments and placing in the top four in four others. Her first place finish at the GSC Championship helped West Florida to a third place team finish.
Burnett is selected as the GSC Freshman of the Year after tying for 21st at the GSC Championship. This is the first time a player from Union has been honored with this award. The freshman helped the Lady Bulldogs to six top-five team finishes with three top-15 scores. Her season best finish came at Harding’s Natural State Classic, finishing fourth with a 165 (84,81). She was also named Second Team All-GSC.
Maupin is the GSC Coach of the Year for the first time in his career. His leadership brought the Lady Flames their first ever GSC Championship, with four players finishing in the top 10. The team’s 884 (+20) is the best 54-hole score in GSC Women’s Golf Championship history. He coached the squad to five top-four team finishes on the season, included two team victories.
