GSC Announces 2018 Men's Golf All-Conference Awards
2018 GSC MEN’S GOLF ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the third straight season, West Florida’s
Chandler Blanchet has been named the Gulf South Conference’s Golfer of the Year. Valdosta State’s
Wesley Hanson has been named the GSC Freshman of the Year, while West Florida’s Steve Fell and Delta State’s Easton Key are named GSC Co-Coaches of the Year.
Blanchet finished second at the GSC Championship, leading the Argos to their sixth straight conference title. With his second place rounds of 73-69-68, he became the first player in GSC history to post the low 54-hole score in three league championships. This season, the senior was impressive, placing first in four of the nine tournaments he competed in. Under his leadership, the Argos won five tournaments and placed in the top three in the rest. He finishes the regular season with an impressive stroke average of 69.63, the lowest in the conference.
Wesley Hanson is named the GSC Freshman of the Year after tying for 25th place at the GSC Championship, helping the Blazers secure a third place team finish. The freshman currently holds a 76.33 stroke average, as Valdosta State garnered eight top 10 team finishes on the year. His best finish this season came at the Saint Leo Invitational in February, tying for 24th
with a +6 222.
Key receives GSC Co-Coach of the Year honors after finishing second at the GSC Championship, just four strokes behind West Florida. Under his leadership, the Statesmen placed in the top three in four of their eight regular season tournaments and advanced to the South Regional. Fell is a now a 15-time winner of GSC Coach of the Year and has won the award four times in the past five seasons. He guided to Argos to their current first place regional ranking entering postseason play and helped them to win four tournament titles and his sixth straight conference title.
