GSC Announces 2018 Lacrosse All-Conference Awards

2018 GSC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Gulf South Conference has announced the 2018 lacrosse all-conference awards, as voted on by the league’s coaches. Alabama Huntsville's Nicole Federovitch has been named GSC Player of the year for the second consecutive year. Hannah Sacristan was voted GSC Defensive Player of the Year for Young Harris, while Lee's Becca Broadwick has been named GSC Freshman of the Year. Young Harris' Samantha Hurley is the GSC Coach of the Year. 

Federovitch receives this year's top award after tallying 65 goals and 14 assists in 16 regular season games. She led the GSC in assists per game with 2.88 and points per game with 6.94. The New Jersey native currently leads the entire NCAA Division II in points and points per game as well. She recorded a season-high eight goals against Mars Hill on March 9 and scored at least one goal in every game this season. This is the second straight year that Federovitch has been named the league's player of the year.

Sacristan received GSC Defensive Player of the Year honors after after helping lead the Mountain Lions to a third straight regular season conference title. YHC went undefeated in league play and outscored opponents 157-66 in those eight contests.

Broadwick earned this year's GSC Freshman of the Year award after scoring 77 points in the regular season. She is currently tied for 23rd in the nation in goals (60), the fifth highest ranked freshman in the category. She led the Lady Flames to the first postseason appearance in program history, pacing Lee in points and goals. 

Hurley led the Mountain Lions to a 12-5 season, including an 8-0 conference record. Her squad finished the season with a 5.4 scoring margin, leading the league in shot percentage with .543 and save percentage with .449. Coach Hurley saw seven of her players win weekly awards on the year, and eight of her players earned all-conference honors. Under her guidance, the Mountain Lions earned the top seed at the championship and the regular season title.
