HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the bottom of the first, T.J. Locket reached on a fielding error, and Ben Cooley scored North Alabama's first run of the game. Chris Blakely scored the Lions' second run on an RBI groundout by Drake Tucker.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Kyle Hubbuch's two-run home run put the Lions up, 4-0.
- The Lions held the Argonauts scoreless until the top of the eighth. Ladeavon Matthews doubled to lead off the inning and scored UWF's first run of the game on an RBI double from Justin Ambrosino. Chase Keifer was hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases. Tanner Halstead then singled to left field, driving in Ambrosino for UWF's second run of the game. Matt Sullivan followed with a two-RBI single that tied the game 4-4.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Cooley singled up the middle scoring T. Mathis, allowing North Alabama to win the game 5-4 in walk-off fashion.
NOTABLES
- The Argonauts made four errors-tying the second most they have made in a single game this season.
- Starting pitcher for the Lions, Tyler Joyner, recorded his 99
th strikeout, one shy of tying the GSC leader, VSU's Austin Hamilton.
- Hubbuch recorded his 13
th home run of the season to tie Union's Nolen Milton and Zach Philips for second in the GSC.
- UWF drew seven walks during the game-one shy from tying its season high.
UP NEXT
North Alabama will play its second game of the tournament against Mississippi College at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 7, at 5 p.m., while West Florida will play the No. 2 seed West Alabama at 8:30 p.m. to conclude the second day of the tournament.
