2017 All-GSC Lacrosse announced

Birmingham, Ala. — The Gulf South Conference announced its annual All-Conference honors for lacrosse on Wednesday as Alabama Huntsville paced all schools with league-high five honorees.

The second all-time All-GSC Lacrosse Team saw Alabama Huntsville lead all schools, placing five student-athletes on the 13-member squad, followed by both Shorter and Montevallo, each with three, and Young Harris, which turned in two. This year's team had a position-high five defenders, to go along with three midfielders and attackers and two goalkeepers.
 
GSC Player of the Year
Alabama Huntsville attacker Nicole Federovitch, a native of Barnegat, N.J., was named the GSC Player of the Year after posting 77-total points in 17 regular season games, including 56 goals. The 2016 GSC Co-Freshman of the Year currently ranks sixth in all of NCAA Division II in total goals and seventh in the nation in total points. She registered a season-high in goals, with eight, against Lee (3/30), while her season-high in helpers also came against Lee (4/10), when she dished out five assists. In fact, she scored at least one point in every match this season except for two. She is currently sporting a .853 shots-on-goal percentage to go along with a .549 shot percentage, having taken 102-total shots, putting 87 on goal. She earned GSC Offensive Player of the Week this season (4/4) after guided her team to a GSC-record breaking performance with a 27-2 win over Lee, in which she matched UAH records in both points- (9) and goals in a single game (8). A week later, the Chargers would once again set a new record for goals in a single game with a 28-5 win, again versus Lee (4/10), as Federovitch recorded a season-high 12-point game, including seven goals.

GSC Defensive Player of the Year
Shorter defender Hannah Pridemore garnered GSC Defensive Player of the Year honors after tallying 69 ground balls, 66 draw controls and 50 caused turnovers. The Lady Hawks had the best scoring defense (8.73) and lead the conference in both caused turnovers-per-game (12.87) and ground balls-per-game (16.12). The Vero Beach, Fla., native was a big reason for that, as she led the league in three defensive categories, currently ranking second in all of NCAA Division II with 3.57 caused turnovers-per-game, third in NCAA DII with 4.93 ground balls-per-game and 14th in the nation in draw controls-per-game (4.71). She opened this season with two-consecutive GSC Defensive Player of the Week honors (2/14-21) and finished having accumulated four (3/21-28). Her season highs included a nine-GB performance against Young Harris (4/15), eight-DC, which she did twice, against both Young Harris (2/25) and Lee (3/14), and three times tallied seven CTO, versus Alabama Huntsville (2/15), Reinhardt (3/18) and Ave Maria (3/25). On 3/14, UAH registered its only shutout of the season, with a 22-0 win over Lee. Pridemore had eight DC, six GB and two CTO in the game. She also got it done on the offensive side of the field, scoring 38 goals, with 17 assists, for a 55-point regular season.
 
GSC Freshman of the Year
Alabama Huntsville attacker Jenna Carr, earned GSC Freshman of the Year accolades with a 57-point regular season. The Canton, Ga., native helped UAH top the league in scoring offense (17.47) with an 8.65 scoring margin, by tallying 48 goals, which ranked her 16th in all of NCAA Division II, good for fourth in the GSC. She was sixth in the league with a 2.82 goals-per-game average and in free position percentage (.484), finding the back of the net for 14 of them. She twice earned GSC Freshman of the Week honors this season. On 2/14, she had an assist and the first-three goals of her career, including two FPG, against Oklahoma Baptist and on 4/4, against Lee, found the back of the net for six. She took a season-high 11 shots against Montevallo (2/22), punching in eight scores, also a high. She also served up a season-best four assists against Keiser (3/20). She closed the regular season with a .791 shots-on-goal percentage and a .558 shot percentage.
 
GSC Coach of the Year
Shorter head coach Brittni Dulaney was named the GSC Coach of the Year after guiding her squad to a 10-5 regular season record, including 4-4 in league play, just one season removed from a 3-10 (1-2 GSC) finish. Her Lady Hawks posted a season-high, three-game winning streak (3/14-25) in which they outscored opponents 59-12 over that span, including a 22-0 shutout of Lee. For the season, Shorter outscored its opponents 237-131 in 15 regular season contests. SU paced the conference in free position percentage (.494), assists-per-game (8.33), scoring defense (8.73), caused turnovers-per-game (12.87), ground balls-per-game (24.93) and points-per-game (24.13). In fact, the Lady Hawks were third in all of NCAA Division II in both CTOPG and GBPG and eighth in both APG and PPG. Coach Dulaney saw five of her players rack up 13 weekly honors this season. Both Crystal Marshall and Shelby Beverly had two GSC Offensive Player of the Week awards, while both Morgan LeBlanc, with three, and Morgan Perrone, with two, combined for five GSC Freshman of the Week honors. The 2017 GSC Defensive Player of the Year, Hannah Pridemore, turned in all four GSC Defensive Player of the Week honors. In her seventh season, the Rome, Ga., native will carry her team as the three-seed in the 2017 GSC Lacrosse Invitational Tournament.
