GSC Announces 2017 Women's Soccer All-Conference Awards

Summer Lanter has been named the GSC Player of the Year, while West Alabama’s
Anele Komani has been named the GSC Freshman of the Year. Valdosta State’s Stephen Andrew has been named the GSC Coach of the Year.
Lanter has been named GSC Player of the Year for the second straight year, and she was also named First Team All-GSC for the third time in her career. Lanter led the Lady Flames to a third straight GSC Regular Season Title and the top seed in the GSC Championship. She finished second in the league in goals per game, tied for second in the league in points per game, and first in the league in game-winning goals. The senior was named GSC Player of the Week three times in 2017
Komani becomes the first Tiger to ever be named GSC Women’s Soccer Freshman of the Year. She started 12 games for UWA, finishing the season with six goals and 15 points. Komani was named GSC Freshman of the Week twice this season and helped lead her team to its sixth straight GSC Championship appearance. The freshman also earned First Team All-GSC honors.
In his first year at Valdosta State, Andrew has been named the league’s coach of the year. VSU had finished the last two seasons in 9
th and 10
th place in the conference standings, missing postseason play each year. This season, the Blazers finished with an 8-4-2 record in GSC play and will enter this week’s GSC Championship as the fifth seed.
