2016 GSC FALL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS
2016 GSC FALL ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL

BIRMINGHAM, Ala
. - The Gulf South Conference is proud to announce its 2016 FireSeeds All-Academic Teams for the fall sports season.

There are 74 recognized student-athletes on the GSC All-Academic Teams across the six fall sports: men’s cross country (8), women’s cross country (8), football (28), men’s soccer (11), women’s soccer (11) and volleyball (8).

Academic All-GSC Teams are selected by the Gulf South Conference Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) in a joint vote. Nominees must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be freshmen or first-semester or quarter transfers. The student-athlete must be a significant contributor to the squad. Other factors include leadership, community service and extra-curricular activities. SIDs and FARs are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions normally involved in the playing of that sport. Ties are not broken.

There is one four-time honoree in the group, as North Alabama’s DeAndre Harrison makes the GSC All-Academic Football Team for the fourth time in his career.

In addition to Harrison, there are nine three-time honorees. Will Donelson (Union MXC), Jacob Whitney (Union MXC), Tyler Sullivan (Delta State FB), Manny Abad (Florida Tech FB), Chris Stapleton (Florida Tech FB), Ryan Harper (North Alabama FB), Sara Helgadottir (West Florida WSOC), Elizabeth Dowd (Shorter VB), and Cora Bidlack (West Florida VB) are all making their third appearance on the GSC All-Academic Teams.

There are 17 selections who are receiving the honor for the second straight season.

Of the 74 student-athletes on the list, 38 of them were also recognized as all-conference performers in the fall.

HONOR ROLL
Mississippi College led all schools with 90 student-athletes on the honor roll, one more than Shorter, who had the most selections on the list for the past four seasons.

Delta State ranked third with 76 standouts on the list, followed by West Florida and North Alabama. Lee is the highest ranking non-football school, with just one less honoree than UNA.

The 815 members of the GSC Honor Roll is the most in the history of the award, and 54 more than the number of honorees from last season.

Qualification for the GSC Honor Roll is automatic based on at least a 3.00 grade-point average and does not require a voting process.
