GSC Women's Track & Field Inaugural Awards Announced

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The 2016 Women's Gulf South Conference Track & Field annual honors were announced on Friday.



West Alabama’s Cecelia David is the GSC Women’s Track Athlete of the Year.
A member of the All-GSC First Team, David won the 5000 meter and 10,000 meter runs at the inaugural GSC Women’s Track & Field Championship. The sophomore from Niarobi, Kenya, also placed first in 3000 meter steeplechase at the Jaguar Invite, first in the 5000 meter run at Heart of Dixie and first in 10,000 meter race at the Falcon Classic.
 
West Georgia’s Andrea Foster is the 2016 Women’s Field Athlete of the Year.
Foster won the triple jump, setting a new program record with a 12.01 meter jump, and placed fourth in the heptathlon at the inaugural GSC Women’s Track & Field Championship. The sophomore from Snellville, Ga., was selected to the All-GSC First Team and was awarded Field Performer of the Week once this year.
 
Lee’s Amy Carpenter is the 2016 GSC Women’s Track & Field Freshman of the Year.
Carpenter, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., had two fifth-place finishes in the in the 1500 meter and 10,000 meter races and placed ninth in the 800 meter run at the GSC Women’s Track & Field Championship.
 
West Georgia’s Tim Brooks named the GSC Track & Field Coach of the Year.
Brooks led the Wolves to two first place team finishes this season and won the GSC Women’s Track & Field Championship. Brooks’ team scored 351.50 points in the inaugural championship and had seven different players win Performer of the Week honors.
