KEY MOMENT
Kendall Johnson delivered a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to key the Shorter rally, scoring Niki Cook and Maggie Meacham to give the Hawks the lead.
QUOTABLE
“We played hard, there were just some key plays that we didn’t make,” said UNA head coach Ashley Cozart. “We had some plays that we made during the regular season that just didn’t happen today. At the plate, we got runners on base, but didn’t get the big hit when we needed it.”
NOTABLE
· Shorter aims to become the first team since Alabama Huntsville in 1996 to win the GSC title in its first appearance.
· Kalie Kimbrell is now 1-0 with three saves, factoring in all four of Shorter’s tournament wins.
· UNA is looking to win their first GSC title since claiming consecutive crowns in 1986 and 1987 – a 28-year drought.
· UNA has trailed in only four of their 26 innings during the tournament.
