KEY MOMENT
Shorter starter Maddie Bray worked out of a 1-out, bases loaded jam in the top of the fourth inning. An infield pop-up and ground out to second base smothered Union’s best chance to take the lead.
QUOTABLE
"It's big to get the first one out of the way," said Shorter assistant coach Jessie Homesley. "Union has a great pitcher that's hard to beat. Now the pressure is off and we're just going to play our game."
NOTABLE
· Shorter and Union both made their GSC Tournament debuts in the game after concluding a three-year reclassification process to Division II.
· Shorter turned double plays in the first, third and fifth innings to thwart Union’s efforts.
· Niki Cook stole her GSC-leading 51st base.
