GSC announces 2015 All-Conference men's soccer

Birmingham, Ala. Alabama Huntsville placed a conference-high six student-athletes on the 2015 All-GSC Men's Soccer Team, Lee's David Perez garnered top player honors, announced on Monday.
 
Alabama Huntsville paced All-GSC honors with a total of six student-athletes on the 24-member team, including a league-high four on the First Team. Both Christian Brothers and Lee turned in four each, both with two First Teamers and two on the Second Team. West Alabama and West Florida both had three, two First Teamers and a Second Teamer each. Shorter had two honored, while both Delta State and Union rounded out the list of honorees with one each.
 
GSC Player of the Year
Lee midfielder David Perez, who led the GSC regular season in goals (15) and points (35), was named the GSC Player of the Year. The junior currently ranks Top 10 in all of NCAA Division II in total goals (10th) and points (8th) and is also Top 15 in both goals-per-game (0.94) and points-per-game (2.29), ranking 14th. He turned in five multi-goal performances this season, including a hat trick against Delta State on 10/16. His two game-winning goals both came against non-conference opponents in Trevecca Nazarene (9/5) and Montevallo (9/16). The Dalton, Ga., native also has five helpers on the year as well.
 
GSC Freshman of the Year
Union midfielder Andre Silva, a native of Cascais, Portugal, scored three goals with two assists, en route to an eight-point regular season and was named the GSC Freshman of the Year. He was tied for the team lead in points with teammate Diogo Dias and scored game-winning goals in back-to-back contests against both Harding (9/11) and Oakland City (9/13).
 
GSC Coach of the Year
Alabama Huntsville head coach Matt Watts was named the GSC Coach of the Year after leading the Chargers to a 10-5 record and a second-place finish in the GSC at 7-2. The honor is the second time Watts has earned Coach of the Year honors, having previously done it with Delta State in 2012. UAH currently leads the GSC in scoring offense (2.71), shutout percentage (.50), assists-per-game (2.71), points-per-game (8.14) and total assists (38) and is tied with Lee in total points, with 114.
