For the first time ever, NCAA Division II raised over $600,000 in a single academic year for Make-A-Wish.  The grand total for the 2014-15 academic year was $605,248.21 – setting a new record AGAIN.  This was just over $37,000 more than the previous record set in 2013-14 (and does not include the $55,000 that was donated to Team IMPACT).  This brings the grand total raised since the beginning of the sponsorship 12 years ago (2003-04) to just over $4.1 million - $4,100,026 to be exact – resulting in over 530 wishes being granted to deserving kids throughout the country.  WOW!

This year, we had 20 institutions raise over $6,000 in Make-A-Wish fundraising (see below).  This was 9 more institutions than the previous high of 11 institutions doing so in 2013-14.

The top 6 institutions raised over $10,000 for Make-A-Wish, which is 2 more institutions than the previous high of 4 institutions doing so in 2012-13.

For the second straight year, the top conference went over $50,000 in Make-A-Wish fundraising.  This year it was the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (see below).

This was the first year that a conference office raised over $7,000 in Make-A-Wish fundraising – the East Coast Conference raised $7,495.

This year, Make-A-Wish allowed Division II to add the funds collected through major/secondary violation fines and championship fines to institutional fundraising totals in order for institutions to reach the amount necessary (average national cost of a wish is $8,500) to be able to host a Wish Reveal.  As a result, in addition to the 8 institutions who raised above the average national cost of a wish, another 29 institutions and 1 conference office will get an opportunity to host a Wish Reveal at a campus/conference event.  The full list is below.

Some additional numbers to ponder:

Just over 76% of all Division II institutions, including those in membership process, participated in raising money for Make-A-Wish (242 institutions).

Similar to the last two years, 5 conferences had 100% participation by its members: East Coast Conference, Great Lakes Valley Conference, Heartland Conference, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and South Atlantic Conference.  Plus, an additional 7 conferences fell only 1 or 2 institutions short of having 100% participation.

There has been almost a 50% increase in Make-A-Wish fundraising by Division II institutions since 2010-11 ($405,752 to $605,248).
